I have it one of my new PCs at work, it has a few nice features. It's not worth $250!! If you have an old pc you wont be able to see most of the new visual effects.
it IS definitely worth the upgrade ... my favorite so far is the search capabilities ... i don't look or browse at all anymore. just tap the start menu and type :)
seriously, if the cost is keeping you from upgrading, ping me ... i may have a way of getting vista at a very discounted price :)
oh yea, or you could attend a launch event and get vista/office for free!
also, the hardware has been blown way out of proportion. if you have a decent video card (128meg) and a decent amount of memory (512m - 1gig), you'll be good to go.
The UAC stuff in vista is a pain. I am admin on my machine, but vista uses the "Standard" user access for all programs and prompt you to "elevate" your credentials to run that program. Even if you specifically say "Run As Admin", it will still warn you. I can see this as a feature that will get diabled by most users.

You probably would need a new computer to run it anyway.
