Saw
Always dismissed by me as some silly slasher flick geared toward brain dead teenagers, I have no idea what prompted me to watch this movie. Maybe it was the 7.6 rating it has on IMDB, or because the Dread Pirate Roberts starred in it. Maybe I just wanted a good old fashioned scare, or perhaps I secretly hoped the 60 year old man with the handlebar mustache at the video store would think I was cool. The point is, I am an indecisive man prone to whimsy and unpredictable behaviour.
Expecting the worse, I was pleasantly surprised. Saw actually has a plot. An interesting plot. To be honest, it wasn't what I expected at all. Not as disturbing or gory or scary as I had believed, it was no worse, in my estimation, than Silence of the Lambs. Whoa whoa whoa, I am NOT saying it is as good a movie as SotL! Just that it is not any more horror inducing, probably less in fact.
As my brother correctly pointed out, Saw did get a little overdramatic at the end, but it still earned 4 stars out of 5.

yeah, tonight i am going to watch the 2nd one.
I never get to see movies like that because I only watch movies with my wife - and she would never watch it.
Fun fact about Big A: I have never seen silence of the lambs.
little bit of trivia: the actor who played the "doctor" in SAW was
"Wesley" from "The Princess Bride".
i think those are the only two movies he's done.
i liked SAW as well.
You cant wait until she goes to bed?
never seen silence of the lambs?!
i think he played a serial killer in kiss the girls too
I have all 3. If a date is set let me know.
My wife loves movies like these, possible the more disturbing, the better, for her. Maybe it is a nurse thing.
nah, If I wait that long, I end up falling asleep. plus, then there's nobody to hold my hand when I get scared.
yeah, SOTL was one of those things that I never saw when it came out, and then when I wanted to see it, everybody I was with had already seen it a hundred times. I've seen bits and pieces when it was on TV, but never the whole thing all the way through.
back in march i did a very brief review of saw II.

i really need to update my blog.
I would never by choice watch either of the Saws, (though I must be the only girl I know who's actually not overly adverse to that type of movie) however, it's kinda nice to know that if I was ever held at gunpoint and forced to, at least there's a halfway decent plot involved.
Actually, you aren't the only girl- I happen to love scary movies, especially gory ones, although the psycho thrillers are good too. However, I have seen Saw and, while it was OK, I thought the end was kind of stupid. The whole Silence of the Lambs trilogy was awesome, though. I could watch those over and over. The Ring was also quite good, but I didn't like the 2nd one. Maybe I'm just getting too old- but I scare myself a lot easier these days. I definitely can't watch them alone, so I feel for you, Big A.
i watch movies by myself all the time.
i've never seen red dragon and hannibal.
Travelinguy - nobody understands your movie watching habits. you are the most indiscriminate movie-watcher I have ever met. And the only one I know who goes to a theatre alone.
I don't mind watching a movie alone, and if my wife worked nights or something, I probably would. But she's almost always here, and I'm not going to banish her to another part of the house just so I can watch a movie she won't like.

Ok, so maybe I'm the only aussie girl I know who isn't adverse to that type of movie.
