Jim Rice

Denied again for the Hall of Fame. Is there no justice in this world?

I also think, putting aside my hatred for the MFYs, Goose Gossage should be in the Hall of Fame too.

My favorite Red Sox players when I was a kid were Jim Rice and Todd Benzinger. Nah, just kidding about Benzinger, but definitely Rice.

What a slugger. I remember going to a game with Big A and watching Jim Rice hit over the Green Monster and hit a light pole. It was a beautiful sight! Rick

Jim Rice was also my favorite player as a kid (Until Roger Clemens stole my heart and then subsequently ripped out, stomped on it and rubbed salt into what was left of it.)

My top two favorite Jim Rice memories:

#1 I was at a game near the end of his career (probably around '88)when he came to bat with the Red Sox down by a couple of runs and the bases loaded with two . The whole crowd was on its feet and the tension mounted as he fouled straight back what seemed like 10 consecutive fastballs. Then he crushed it over the Green Monster for the game winning grand slam and the place exploded. The next day at school people were congratulating me as if I were the one who had hit it.

#2. Kind of an oddity. One time a guy ran out on the field and mooned the whole crowd. The rumor was that he had "Jim Rice" written on his hind quarters. No idea if it was true, but it was still fun to talk about.

Rick,
was that the time when we got in an argument over who was better the Mets or the Red Sox and just started shouting "Mets Stink" and "Red Sox Stink" louder and louder until my Dad told us both to shut up?

I remember one time when Andy invited me to go to a Red Sox game and then when we got there I found out our seats were not together and I had to sit with his DAD.

I apologize for treating you so shabbily Arik. If I had known then, at the tender age of 15, that you would be a better friend at age 31 (heck, age 21 even) than russhole, I would have made him sit next to my dad.

I remember Jim Rice catching a fly ball in foul territory with his bare hand.

I don't remember doing that, but it wouldn't surprise me.

Don't worry, guys! I have reformed and can root for the Red Sox. You should have seen us out here in Colorado going crazy for them as they beat the Yankees and then the World Series.
