Black Widow

Yesterday at work a guy started out a story with, "I had a dream that there was a black widow in my bed," and I interrupted him and said, "Wait...do you mean the spider?"

I thought that was pretty funny, but finding a black widow, the spider kind, in my living room wasn't nearly as so.

In Australia we have a very similar spider called a redback. I havn't found any around this house yet but at the old house I used to find them everywhere under flowerpot rims and in cobwebby corners outdoors. Once I even found one in the process of sucking on a baby lizard it had killed. Nasty things.

its too nice to store in a closet or in the shed. i like to display it.

i sprayed it with hornet/wasp spray. i would have simply stepped on it but i didn't know if they could jump. some spiders i've found can jump.

anyway, the spray didn't kill it. just slowed it down. i stepped on it at that point. really hard shell. made an awful crunching noise.

my batting average when it comes to killing spiders is varitek-esque. usually i plan an attack for 10 minutes because im so afraid of missing.

i was weeding my front plant bed and uncovered several large, 2 inch est. from front leg to back legs, wolf spiders. i leave those alone. i think they are generally harmless. of course, if they are in the house, and they do get in sometimes, its spider heaven.
