After leaving an oil slick in my driveway that only the Exxon Valdez could appreciate, I made a life changing decision today. Never again will I change my own oil. Never. Not only is it a pain, and messy, but it's not even cost effective anymore.
(I know I said this yesterday, two posts ago, but I really mean it now)

I'm telling you - go to Prompto in Dover. $18.50 and you'll be out of there in 5 minutes. Sometimes they let you stay in your car.
The other thing I like about it is they don't do ANY OTHER WORK, so I can send my wife in there without fear that they will try to convince her that the tires will blow up at any minute, that she needs a new transmogrifier belt or the AC/DC converter filter is fouled up.
I stopped changing my own oil a couple years ago. Just not worth it for the reasons you describe. The Dodge Dealership does it for 19.99 and every 5th one is free. My next oil change is the free one. I usually stop in on Saturday morning and drool over the new Dodge and Ford vehicles as the change my oil.
You just need one of these.
